Believe it or not, two.

I was very reluctant to get a cell phone and only got one 5 years ago because my then employer insisted on it. I got the very cheapest on the market - it was, really, just a phone. The sound quality eventually became so bad that after the holiday season I very reluctantly traded it in on a newer model, with better sound, so that I can hear even if I'm on a busy street. But it's still one that is just a telephone for calling people, as opposed to a smartphone.

One. It is simply a phone for emergencies. I think we have had it now for just over 3 years.

We live rurally. I have one neighbor whose house I can only see when the leaves have fallen, the other neighbor is over 1 mile away. A few years ago my husband was driving and the vehicle broke down, at least the weather was not bad, but that convinced us to get a cell phone - we do not use it except for emergencies, to be honest I do not know how to text or anything.

My teenage daughter got a phone at the same time - she pays for it! She is on her third, she dropped the first one in snow, I cannot remember what happened to the second one though.

On the whole I see a lot of people wasting a lot of money on cell phones then complaining they do not have money for this or that.

I got my first cell phone at the age of 18, I am 26 now and I have had 8 cell phones total.

My cell phones have included the infamous but now obsolete Motorola Razr, the T-Mobile Sidekick and my newest and most favorite, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 G. I must admit my dream cell phone would be the Apple iPhone, my goal is to get that one this year, which would make it my ninth cell phone.

I remember my first cell phone, the Motorola 8000 in 1984, also called the brick, which cost me about 4400 dollars and my Metromobile phone bills over 2000 every month.

Since then I have probably gone through about 30 phones. Some got lost, some fell into the swimming pool, some got dropped too many times.

Now I get a free phone every year from Sprint customer retention department and I send the old one back for recycling.

My first ever cell phone was a Motorola Graphite, and that was one chunky phone with a long pull-out antenna. I bought this on a 2 year contract somewhere around 1998.

My second cell phone was the Sony Ericsson T10 and had that phone around the year 2000 as far as I can remember.

My third cellphone was the Nokia 3310.

My fourth cell phone was the Nokia 8800, and that was a beautiful silver and sleek slide phone. I had that phone for a couple of years and eventually broke down.

My fifth cell phone was the Samsung D800, and that was the worst slide phone ever, and unreliable.

My sixth cell phone was the Sony Ericsson K800.

My seventh cell phone is the Nokia E71, and I still use it today.

My eight cell phone is the Android Monte Carlo iphone, and bought that phone last Christmas.

Totally, including the two phones already being used, I have had eight cell phones.

I would guess around 15 at this point. I started out with a Nokia "brick" on Bell Mobility, and have moved through to what I have today (Blackberry 9800 and a Google Nexus S).

Answer 7/15 - Submitted 1/15/2012

I have had about 5 over the years. Usually just the basic one, but have upgraded to a nicer one this time. I have 2 older versions in a box in my room for an emergency back up if something happens to this one.

Answer 8/15 - Submitted 1/15/2012

Six
The first two Panasonic phones with monochrome displays must have had some form of bug in the software as they kept powering down even though they were fully charged.
The third phone was a Motorola but it had a crappy interface and I only ever used it as a backup.
The fourth phone was a Nokia with a color display but it ended up in the washing machine before it learned to swim!
The fifth phone was a Nokia 6300. It's basic but actually makes calls along with having an FM radio and allowing me to listen to MP3 files having 4GB of memory. This is my current phone.
The sixth phone was the Nokia 6303, the upgraded version of the 6300. I bought this and it's on a different network in the event that one network goes down.

I have lost track of how many cellphones I've gone through. I know the number is pretty high. I got rid of a few of them because they wore out. I got rid of others because my contract was up and I switched companies. I pretty much stick to the basic models that the company is giving away for free with the contract. I've thought about upgrading, but I really don't think it would be worth my while, because I just don't use my cellphone for anything but making calls. I even have blocked the texting capability on it.

Over the course of my life i've had about 10 cell phones total. started out with the first color screen nokia that came out, then i had the nokia "taco phone". called that because it looks like a taco. first phone i can remember that had a memory card. it was only 64mb. after that came the motorolla v400, my first flip phone and my first phone with a camera. from there i got a nokia flip phone which i still have today, but its no longer functional. from there it was a nokia with a qwerty keyboard, e61 or something like that. that one was one of my favorites. then the first iphone. my oh my what advances the iphone brought to the market. after my iphone broke, i made due with an LG kp500 touchscreen phone which by the way blows hard. iphone 3g was next before the android phones got popular, and from there i went with a motorolla droid x. loving android platform lead to my next purchase, the motorolla droid razr, which is my current phone. looking to upgrade soon though,

I've had two cell phones my whole life. I had an old TracFone back in the day. It is so out of date now, but I still have it in a closet somewhere. I now have a Nokia that is pretty old, too. Everyone laughs at my phone. I have a pay as you go plan with T-Mobile. My phone is really basic - it only calls and texts. It does not take photos, it can't go on the internet, and it can't even handle cool ringtones. It is actually almost funny at this point.

Believe it or not, I am actually considering becoming a part of modern society and cancelling my full service plan with my landline and switching to a real cell phone plan! Gasp! My problem is I am an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of gal. Since the phone still works well, I would hate to get rid of it. Everyone else has cell phones with poor reception and dropped calls. My phone actually works well since it is ONLY a phone and I'd hate to give it up.

I am currently using the fourth cell phone that I have ever owned. Whenever I get a cell phone, or anything else for that matter, I try to make it last as long as possible. I don't feel the need to rush out and buy the latest thing all the time, especially when the one that I have works fine.

I plan on making this phone last at least another 6 months, before getting a new one. That will give me 2 years with the phone.

Answer 13/15 - Submitted 1/17/2012

I'm on my fourth phone.

I got a Panasonic GD67 when I was about 14. It was the first sensibly-priced phone with a colour screen. It also had polyphonic ringtones, and could even get on the Internet using WAP (although this was too slow and expensive to use regularly).

I got an 02-X3 (re-branded Benq S700 if I remember correctly) a few years later. It could play MP3s and had a memory card slot. It also had a very poorly designed camera with shiny plastic around it - under certain conditions you could see horrible reflections in photos and videos. That lasted about 4 years, first pre-paid then on a contract I took over from my parents.

In 2008, I decided I needed a contract with more minutes. I wanted a smartphone, and chose the original Samsung Omnia i900. It ran Windows Mobile 6 which could be unstable at times, but I loved being able to download free software and games for it. The middle button acted like an optical trackpad which could move a mouse pointer around the screen - useful for clicking small links while browsing the Internet. Apart from a Blackberry (can't remember which model), I've never seen another phone with this feature and I still miss it at times.

I've had my current phone, the iPhone 3GS, for about 18 months. A friend bought one and let me play with it, and I liked the user interface and the range of apps. It's starting to show it's age now as it's quite scratched and the battery doesn't last as long as it used to, but I plan to make it last until this autumn when Apple announce the iPhone 5 (or whatever they decide to call it). After that, I'll decide whether to stay with Apple or move to an Android phone.

Answer 14/15 - Submitted 1/17/2012

So far just one. I have had this phone for about six or seven years. It can make and receive calls and it can text but that is about it. It was cheap at the time because it was going out of style and I don't even think they make them anymore. I like it because I never have to charge it very long and the battery is the original battery it came with. It has fallen a few times and nothing happened to it.

Sooner or later I may get a new one but as long as this one works, I'll stick with it.
